Want To Laugh?

No, I’m not going to make you laugh but I can tell you where to go if you want a good laugh: UCB Theater.

Many a Saturday nights we head to Hollywood to catch the 7pm Sentimental Lady: Guilty Pleasures Show at UCB Theater. Tickets are $5 a piece and you have to reserve them in advance (it always sells out). I’ve seen a number of shows at UCB Theater but Sentimental Lady is far and away my favorite.

The show is divided into two parts. During the first part the team asks someone in the audience to share a guilty pleasure, questions them about the pleasure, and then performs a series of scenes all tied to what the audience member has shared. I am so impressed with how the team members can remember all of the little details and bring them out with perfect timing.

The second half is based on an audience response to the question, name something you used to be into that you are not into any more.  The second half is great but the first half is always my favorite. I love the interaction between the team and the audience member sharing his/her guilty pleasure. Again, this is Improv so no material exists before the show starts. Read: the people performing are smart and incredibly quick.

While UCB isn’t a fitness class or the latest food (like most of my posts) I will tell you that you might have sore abs from laughing so hard.  And speaking of food you should eat the amazing crispy brussels sprout leaves at La Poubellle after.

Where Have I Been? Thinking About What Other People Are Doing…

I have so many things to write about but my blog has taken a back seat.  That being said, I’ve been thinking a lot about what to write lately and how to write it to reach my audience.

Here is a post I wrote for work.  When it comes to my favorite business topics it would definitely be content marketing. In my spare time I’d love to bring some of these formats to life on my own blog. But for now enjoy another side to me.

Flash Tattoos & Deity Jewels

Has anyone seen Flash Tattoos? It is no surprise that my very talented & beautiful friend Ellen Dante of Deity Jewels came over last night sporting them on her wrists along with some of her amazing jewelry.

I found some Flash Tattoos online today that are calling my name. Oh and Ellen’s jewelry is always calling my name. This wrap bracelet is at the top of my list.

Champagne diamond beads and loose champagne diamonds macramed with gold floss and a 14K gold clasp.

I had no excuse not to sign up.  The kid is at camp and the husband is fine doing his own thing. I know I’m nuts but I can’t think of many things better than what was outlined above.  This is my idea of a DREAM afternoon.

I went and it was AWESOME.  The crew from Lululemon Brentwood is always so upbeat and positive.  Kris at Burn 60 led us through a challenging 30 minute class.  My experience at Orangetheory was even better than my first visit.  Brenden was fantastic and did a great job explaining everything and making sure we were using proper form.  The energy was great and the workout TOUGH.  Once I learned how to use the water rower I was gasping for air.

I can’t think of a better way to end then a stop at Brentwood Hot Yoga. I NEVER knew this place existed. It is a beautiful studio right off of San Vicente tucked away in a courtyard.  Lululemon generously had yoga mats in all colors waiting for us upon our arrival.  Along with the mats each of the sponsors threw in some swag – water bottles, towels, free classes, etc.

I feel like I should have been paying for this and instead I was gifted with a fantastic workout, camaraderie with 20+ people I’d never seen before in my life, and some mementos to take home. I had to leave right after class but the fun continued back at Lululemon with a Juice Crafters tasting and a raffle for prizes.

The picture below is from the Lululemon FB page and is of me getting my butt kicked at Orangetheory. All Lululemon stores offer great classes at no charge. Like the store nearest you on FB and you’ll be kept in the loop.

Daily Dose of Chocolate

I love dark chocolate. I also believe that the world would be a much more peaceful place if everyone were mandated a daily dose of chocolate.  I make sure I eat my dose daily.

I just returned from 2 weeks in France. In the absence of any workout facilities to try I thought I’d focus on exercising my taste buds. I envisioned daily tastings at various chocolatiers. Unfortunately for me I only came across two: La Maison Du Chocolat & Jean Luc Pele (known for his macarons as well). Both offered delicious artisinal chocolates. My favorite piece from La Maison was dark chocolate filled with lemon. At Jean Luc Pele I had dark chocolate covered salted carmel mmm mmm mmm it was good.  I have no doubt everything in both of these shops is amazing and highly encourage you to visit (or order online) and taste away.

Rarely does a day go by where I don’t eat dark chocolate. I thought I would share with you a few of my favorites. I still have many more left to try.

Trader Joe’s Mini 70% Dark Chocolate Bars – 100 calories each. I love them because they are individually wrapped (portion control)

Chocolove Almonds & Sea Salt in Dark Chocolate – Great because the almonds add some extra protein making it that much more healthy

B.T. McElrath Salty Dog Bar – Perfect balance of chocolate and coarse salt. It also comes in little bite size packages.

Dark Secret Chocolate – 30 Day box as it makes you feel like you have to eat it. Also great in that it is individually portioned. In case you can’t tell I need that 🙂  If you don’t believe me maybe Oprah’s endorsement as one of her favorite things will sell you on them.

In addition to your daily vitamins I strongly suggest dark chocolate. You can thank me later and share with me your favorites.
